ABINGDON, Va (WCYB) — Leaders of the nonprofit organization Healing Hands are currently working on expanding their services with a new medical and behavioral health center.
I have seen the need that people really need behavioral health services and mental health services. We saw that in our patients and we saw that in our community, Said Amy Moseley, Director of Development and Community Engagement for Healing Hands.
The center will be located right next to its dental clinic with the goal of having a seamless integration with the other clinics and services they provide.
Now that we have the staff we need additional space because it is increasing our capacity, said Moseley.
The 98 hundred square foot building will include comprehensive care so patients have access to physical, mental, and social care all in one place they're calling the "Heartbeat" of the center.
That will be where the whole care team is that's our physician or medical residence, our psychiatric nurse practitioner, our community health workers all our nurses and support staff, said Moseley.
Healing Hands leaders tell News 5's Yannia Nordelo they hope to open the center in 2026 and they're goals are to increase capacity by 60% and become a safe place where patients feel supported during difficult times.
Only about 30% of our patients that we referred out would actually follow through with getting the mental healthcare that they needed so we felt like this is a safe place and it's a great place for them to start getting that care, said Moseley.
Healing Hands leaders say they still need your help to complete this building so if you’re interested in donating or volunteering click here. There is also a ceremony to celebrate the beginning of the renovation for our new medical and behavioral health center and to kick off the public phase of Building Health/Inspiring Hope Capital Campaign on April 24th from 4 to 6 pm.
