Tennessee Health Commissioner visits Bristol health, dental clinic

BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) – Leaders from across the state toured the Healing Hands Health facility in Bristol, Tennessee, to learn how the facility provides services to patients who are underinsured or uninsured.

Helen Scott, Executive Director of Healing Hands Health, said it provides dental and medical healthcare to those around the area.

“We serve the whole region of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee,” Scott said. “We help people who don’t have medical insurance, don’t have health insurance, dental insurance. So, we help the uninsured and then also the underinsured. So, we help people who have TennCare and Virginia Medicaid and adult dental.”

'IT'S A GREAT FACILITY' Tennessee health leaders tour Healing Hands Health Center

BRISTOL, Tenn. – State health officials toured Healing Hands Health Center’s new medical/behavioral health clinic and expanded dental clinic on Wednesday.

A delegation of 10 state and area health leaders including state Health Commissioner Dr. John Dunn and Dr. Ken Tilashalski, dean of the college of dentistry at UT Health Science Center, spent about an hour learning about how the clinic utilizes state support and its relationships with colleges and universities.

Healing Hands Health celebrates expanded services

The facility marks the completion of a three-year campaign to address a rising need for behavioral health services.

New Clinic, Same Care

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Randy Rosenbalm wasn’t initially familiar with Healing Hands Health Center but time off from work Thursday to participate in its semi-annual health fair.

Healing Hands, which provides low-cost medical, dental and vision care to area individuals and families without insurance or with limited insurance coverage, hosts the health fairs as free community events to offer services and raise community awareness.

Seventy-five people received medical care during the two days, with most occurring in the organization's new clinic.

News 5 takes part in Healing Hands' 15th 'Sweet for the Sweet' campaign

This Valentine's Day, News 5 joined other volunteers on the cupcake patrol. This is part of Healing Hands Health Center's 15th Sweets for the Sweet campaign. It is one of the biggest fundraisers for the low-cost medical and dental clinic. Supporters paid $50 to have a Blackbird Bakery cupcake delivered to a friend or loved one. Healing Hands volunteers delivered 900 cupcakes over the last two days. This year's campaign raised nearly $36,000 and you can still donate if you'd like to help the organization reach its $40,000 goal.

Healing Hands Health in Bristol provides free dental care for veterans

Healing Hands Health in Bristol, Tennessee, showed its appreciation for veterans on Friday.

The health clinic gave veterans free dental care with the help of University of Tennessee Dental School students. All sorts of dental care was provided from x-rays to fillings and more for veterans in need. Providers and students said they were honored to be part of the event.

Veterans were also given free haircuts and the opportunity to see representatives from other agencies who offer help to veterans in the community.
