Susan’s Story
No one should have to choose between managing a healthcare crisis and keeping up with monthly bills. Yet, everyday in our region, uninsured and underinsured neighbors face that impossible reality. Susan was one of them.
After her work hours were cut, Susan lost the health insurance she had depended on for years. Overnight, routine doctor visits became unaffordable, and prescription medications she needed were suddenly out of reach. Like so many people facing financial strain, Susan delayed care and hoped nothing serious would happen.
Then something did.
A frightening medical emergency sent Susan to the local emergency room where she was diagnosed with rapid onset atrial fibrillation - afib, a serious heart condition that required immediate follow-up care. Doctors wanted to hospitialize her. Susan refused. Not because she did not want treatment, but because she knew she could not afford the hospital bill.

Her fear was intensified by the memory of losing her mother after a medical emergency involving the same diagnosis. The very next day, Susan’s physician connected her to Healing Hands Health.
